Job Search

As of last Wednesday at 9:00pm, I finished my first year of my master's program. Now I need a summer job. I could always go back to my teenage summer job as a "duck hut" girl (aka glorified janitor) at a Clovis swim school- but somehow I don't think selling concessions, hauling wet kids up the slide, and cleaning up barf out of the pool is going to work for me anymore.

Last summer, Whit and I took a 16 hour road trip in a Penske. Maybe I should try being a truck driver for the summer, I hear they make good money and I'm sure I'd meet lots of men on the road.

I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always... long as I'm living (and well beyond that), my big sister you'll be.

Thanks for the infectious laugh, for the creative genius in your floral arrangements, for being the best shopping buddy no matter the circumstances, for always saying I-O-WA regardless of how many times we told you otherwise, for the late night chats, for stupid boy advice, for Jason and Hailey, for your sense of humor, for your Christlike example, for your make-up application tips, for your honesty, for doing late night Jane Fonda workouts in the family room, for making me try sushi, for being a great personal cheerleader, for lunches at the Ritz, for having more guts than anyone I've ever known, and for being my big sister. The world is a brighter place because you were in it.

Ode to...

Baby powder.

I know what you're thinking. "But Lindsay doesn't have a baby, does she?" No, I don't. But that hasn't stopped me from singlehandedly keeping Johnson & Johnson in business. Let me explain.

I was up late Tuesday night writing (yes, hand-writing and then typing) a paper. I desperately needed to wash my hair, but I figured I'd do it in the morning before my 8:30am class. Yeah right. Instead of popping into the shower when my alarm sounded, I hit snooze and awoke 20 minutes before class. What is a greasy haired girl to do? I could throw on a hat- but I've done that far too many times this semester. So naturally I turned to my trusty friend, baby powder. I dusted it over my head, ran a brush through my hair, threw it back into a pony, and was out the door. Thank goodness for blonde hair. Best part of the whole thing is when I showed up to my class a fellow student said, "Did you get your hair done recently? It looks great." If she only knew.

Lest you think I'm totally disgusting, check THIS out. (Thanks Laura)

Oh, and don't worry, I took a shower after class.

Dear Nextdoor Lady,

I thought it was really funny when you came over today to let us know just how upset you were that Monica's car was "completely blocking" your driveway. Yes, it was 2 inches past the curb, but I hardly think that constitutes complete blockage. It was especially funny when you said, "No one can get in or out of the driveway," because I just saw you pull out and your car was sitting in front of our house- which leads me to believe that you were somehow able make it out of your "completely blocked" driveway. Nevertheless, I'm sorry. Maybe I can make you some of my delicious peanut butter crispies to make up for it. I'm sure we'll be friends in no time.

Lindsay Lark
